5 and 5: Aunt J
Someday, on one of my trips to Ohio, I’ll be on the right corner to meet the wonderful Aunt Juicebox of Bacon is My Lover. In the meantime, here is her 5 and 5.

Five Fortunes
Going along with the Thanksgiving Day theme that Moonspun has asked for, I have listed 5 things I love about the holiday, and 5 things that I hate. I prefer to get negatives out of the way as quickly as possible, so I’m going to start with those.
5 things I hate about Thanksgiving Day
1) Football
2) Only a month left for Christmas shopping
3) Turkey. Yuck.
4) Trying to coordinate a day to see everybody in my family because none of them want to see each other
5) The traffic around here gets impossible from that point, until after Christmas. Ugh.
Ok, now that’s over with and we can move on to the good stuff. Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday, so there’s a lot to love.
5 things I love about Thanksgiving Day
1) It is also close to my birthday, so I’ve always sort of associated the two days, and sometimes, they fall on the same day. This year will also mark my fifth anniversary to my husband, MJ as well.
2) Getting together with friends and family. I like being able to spend time with everyone, sitting around the table with plenty of time to just relax and enjoy ourselves.
3) Lots of good food. I love to cook, and I love to feed people. There are certain foods that I only prepare on holidays or the rare party event, so we look forward to them much more than if we made them every day. I prefer ham over turkey, but it’s always been my goal to make a Turducken at least once in my life. It’s great to have aspirations!
4) Time off from school/work. In our school district, my daughter has the entire week off school. This is great, because it gives her extra time to see both sides of her family. MJ also gets two days off from work. This year, we are going to visit his family in West Virginia.
5) The ambience of the season. I can finally stop listening to Christmas music in secret, and I can break out the Christmas movies and decorations. In my family, we always get the tree out the day after Thanksgiving. While the rest of the world is out trampling each other for Christmas bargains, we’re at home, eating delicious leftovers, watching movies and decorating.
I won’t be a holiday hog and take over Moonspun’s blog with the many more reasons that I love Thanksgiving. I’ll leave you with just a small encouragement. The day is about giving thanks for what we have, and there are many of us out there this season that have very little. If you have a moment during your celebration, won’t you please think of someone who may be a little less fortunate than yourself, and invite a single or older person to dinner, or drop off a few non perishable food items to your local food pantry. Happy Holidays!
