It is amazing how quickly social media has become so important to mommy bloggers looking to share online. The online community has meant that moms and families who choose to live outside of the cities, in low density areas, can still connect and communicate with other women. And, even for those who do live in urban areas, it has provided more valuable interactions and sharing. Being a mom is a discovery process for each individual and sometimes it can be a scary journey, when children get sick especially. We worry and we get eaten up with concern when the lives of our kids may be at stake. Being able to communicate with another mom, who may have gone through a similar experience, can be a game changer.
Sometimes, it can be as simple as sharing new healthy recipes for sweets that kids can eat without getting hyper and suffering tooth decay. Another mom can show you a labour saving method for getting stains out, naturally, without harsh chemicals. Where to find bargains and where to shop for the things you need and want. Women traditionally loved to gather by the well and share their experiences and feelings. The Internet is that virtual well where we can all gather together and swap stories. Community is a word often bandied about in the digital sphere but mommy bloggers know what real community is.
Mommies who want to share more communication in the workplace can use social tools such as sharepoint to work together on project focussed tasks while catching up on personal news too. There are moms in so many different settings at work, home or a bit of both; and these social media tools are changing the way we interact. No longer are we ruled by geographic realities when we choose to communicate with each other. News and views can be shared quickly and efficiently; we are not wasting time on travel.
The Internet is truly bringing the global experience to moms who can access it freely, without government restrictions. This is not the case for moms who live in countries controlled by totalitarian regimes, like China, and the theocracies in the Middle East and Africa. We need to help women everywhere break free from repression and support those who champion a free and politically unrestricted digital sphere. Free communication globally would topple these regimes and people power would prevail. Moms can bring their nurturing to the world and stop the killing of men.
